"Being an alpine ski racer means lots of paneled slalom, slalom and GS training and races. But once a year we get to participate in the Pod Cup (named for Steve Podborski) which is a Super-G race. We do two full days of training. Learning how to take a jump at high speeds, but under control the entire time so you don't lose time. Then on the last day we race. Everyone is excited to experience the high speeds on super long skis (mine were 187 cm). My dad tells me that he used to ski on even longer skis for slalom when he was a racer!
This year the race was delayed a few times due to some racer injuries, so we only got one run. I loved flying down the course. My time was okay, not my best results, but that is ski racing! Now looking forward to a couple full-gate slalom races coming up!"
