1. Where are you from?

I was born in raised in Guelph, Ontario and I currently go to Brock University in St. Catherines. My family has a condo in Collingwood which we visit throughout summer and winter breaks!

2. How long have you been working at Blue?

I started working at Blue in May of 2021, the summer between high school and university. I initially thought it would be just a summer job but a year and a half later; still here and still loving it!

3. What made you decide to apply for a position with Blue Mountain?

I decided to apply for a position at Blue when I was between high school and university, since I was looking for a summer job which would offer me experience different to what I was used to. Blue Mountain came to mind as it has been a place my family and I have loved for years; it’s where I learned to ski and spent many of my summers.

4. What department do you work for?  What is your position?

I work for the Contact Centre! We are the first point of contact for the resort; I help with creating lodging reservations, booking Passes, and answering general inquiries via phone and email.

5. What was your work experience in the past?

Prior to starting at Blue, I worked in a few different customer service and retail roles, as well as lots of volunteer work at local charities and races! I had gained lots of face-to-face experience and sought out a role which would allow me to work more on the back end of things.

6. What things were important to you when looking for a job in your field?

When looking for a job as a student, flexibility was extremely important to me.  I am a full-time student and I commute between 2-3 cities in a week, so it was important for me to find a job which would support my on-the-go lifestyle.

7. What were some of the biggest barriers to finding employment?

In finding employment, location had been a big barrier. As a student who travels so much for school, it can be challenging to find remote work.

8. What has been the best part of your experience so far?

Since working at Blue, I have gained ample remote work experience which has helped me build on existing skills. Not only that, but I referred my best friend to the Contact Centre and have been working with her since October 2021. Sharing my career with someone so close makes it so much more exciting.

9. What has been your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge has been maintaining a good work-life balance as someone who works remotely. I am fortunate to get to work from home, but it can be challenging to strike a balance between work and home when it is all in the same location.

10. What are you looking forward to most at Blue Mountain?

Every year I most look forward to the ski season! My boyfriend and I love skiing, and met the summer I started working at Blue. This past winter we came to Blue to ski almost every weekend using the awesome employee Pass Perks

11. What’s your biggest piece of advice for someone applying at Blue Mountain?

My biggest piece of advice for someone applying to Blue is to just go for it. It’s a job with so many opportunities and one might just come along which is ideal for you!
