Operations Update: Terrain Park, Webcams & More Snowmaking Work

Here’s the latest on what our Operations team has been up to this past week as we make our way to winter:

Ongoing Snowmaking Repairs

Thanks to the dry weather we’ve had in the past few weeks, our team has made great progress uncovering and fixing snowmaking floodline leaks across the mountain, especially in the North area. The favourable conditions have allowed us to find and patch these leaks in a more efficient manor before the snow can cover the ground.

We’re also continuing revitalization and cleanup work from snowmaking upgrades in the South Learning Centre around Big Baby, including haying, seeding and bulldozer work.

Terrain Park Prep in Full Swing

This week, our millwrights have been busy welding a brand-new feature, while the crew has been completing rail prep like buffing and painting park features over in L-Park. We’re working towards running a lift-access terrain park from opening day right through to closing day. The preparation work is setting the stage for an impressive park experience all season long.

Watching for Snowmaking Windows

We’ve been keeping a close eye on the forecast, patiently waiting for temperatures to dip low enough for snowmaking. As soon as those snowmaking windows open up, we’re ready to jump into action with quick decision-making. If there’s a chance to start the guns, we won’t miss it!

Seasonal Snowmakers Onboarding Soon

We’re excited to welcome back our seasonal snowmakers, who will begin over the next week or so. The way we onboard our snowmaking team is tied directly to snowmaking opportunities, with strategic scheduling to cover key snowmaking windows. Initially, we’ll be scheduling 7-day-a-week coverage with 4-10 hour shifts, gradually transitioning to 24-hour coverage once temperatures consistently drop.

Webcams Coming Soon to Orchard and Valley

Two webcams in the Orchard and Valley are returning to livestream! These cameras not only offer real-time views of the trails for our skiers and riders but also help our operations team monitor the snow guns on the mountain when we start making snow.

As we get closer to Opening Day, our team is fully prepared for any opportunities that come our way. Stay tuned for more updates as we inch toward winter!

You'll find me across the mountain swapping between my ski boots and hiking boots with a GoPro in hand to capture all things on-hill for Blue's social media channels.
