Operations Update: The Cold Snap Begins

We’re coming out of a recent thaw and sliding into exactly what we’ve been waiting for: strong snowmaking temperatures. With the forecast pointing toward a solid two-week stretch of cold, we’re shifting into a more targeted, strategic phase of snowmaking—one that builds quality coverage where it matters most to get us through to spring, while keeping nightly grooming smooth and efficient.

Targeted Efforts

Our focus is on thin areas of 50 cm base or less that aren’t close to our target depth of one metre. With this cold window, we can take a timed approach to top up what needs it, with less whales being left on the hill. This helps keeps grooming more manageable overnight. We’re also seeing wind direction changes forecasted, which helps spread coverage across the full trail.

Running Smart

In these ideal temps, we’re running no more than 200 snow guns at a time, compared to up to 300 in tougher conditions. We have four compressors and 14 production pumps, but we’re only running two compressors right now—if we don’t need more, we won’t use more to keep our energy more efficient. Right now we have a good balance to keep the snowmaking team focused and strategic.

Burying Terrain Parks

Parks are a major priority as we work toward full builds in all four parks. We have been blasting snow in Badlands since early Friday morning, and are also actively making snow in L-Park, Yahoo, and the Grove. There are plans for a cross track coming to L-Park and beginner features added to Yahoo. By month-end, we’re aiming to have a rebuilt Badlands and all four parks open.

As temperatures cooperate, we’ll keep being intentional with where and how we make snow, so we can deliver the best possible conditions with efficient overnight work. Thanks for your patience and understanding while snowmaking is underway. See you on the slopes!
