Return to the Slopes Like a Pro

Winter is just around the corner and it won’t be long until you can strap on your skis or board and head to Blue Mountain Resort.

But when the time comes to hit the slopes, will you and your equipment be ready?

After the first snow fall, it’s tempting to just haul your ski equipment out of storage and get out there. But jumping back in without some pre-season prep can make your first days back on the runs less enjoyable.

Here are some tips to make a smooth transition into the coming winter season at Blue.

MAKE SURE YOUR EQUIPMENT FITS AND TUNE YOUR GEAR

First, you want to make sure your boots fit properly. Few things can ruin a beautiful day of skiing or boarding more than poor fitting boots. Put them on a few days before your first day on the hill and walk around. Make sure they feel as good as they did last year. If you don’t feel like you can stay in them all day, or if you’re in the market for a new pair, consider getting professionally fitted. You may need a customized foot bed or liner to make your boots fit comfortably.

Next, it’s important to give your skis or boards a thorough check before you use them. If you’ve stored your gear in a hot garage all summer, you might find some rust on the edges and damage to the wax on the bottom. You should also look for any loose screws or bolts on your bindings that will need to be tightened up.

Don’t worry about fixing your own gear. Blue Mountain’s ski and snowboard repair shop can help you out. Bring your skis and snowboards in for a wax and tune up and you’ll notice a difference on your first day back on the slopes.
