The days are getting shorter, the air a little crisper, and here at Blue Mountain we’ve got one thing on our minds: winter! If you’re wondering what’s in store for the season ahead, we have good news for snow lovers; Ontario is in for a classic Canadian winter.

What the Forecasts Are Saying
According to the Farmers’ Almanac and the Old Farmer’s Almanac, this winter will bring cold temperatures, frequent snowfalls, and stormy stretches across much of Ontario. The Farmers’ Almanac is calling for “plenty of cold shots and snowstorms,” especially through January and February, while the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts colder-than-average conditions and above-normal snow for much of central and eastern Canada.
For skiers and snowboarders, what more could we ask for?! Cold snaps keep snow on the ground longer, and consistent precipitation means fresh flakes will be falling often.

What This Means for Skiers and Riders
Here’s how those predictions translate to our slopes:
- Early Season Kickoff: With cold air settling in, our snowmaking team will be able to fire up the guns and get a solid base down. Add in a few natural snowfalls, and the holidays are looking like the perfect time to hit the trails.
- January and February Storms: Both Almanacs highlight stormy, snowy conditions through mid-winter. That’s prime powder time; deep, soft layers that make for unforgettable days on the hill.
- Reliable Conditions: Those sharp cold snaps help preserve snow quality, both natural and machine-made, meaning fewer melt-freeze cycles and smoother, more consistent trails.
