Grooming has been a battle lately as the snow continues to set up differently due to temperatures staying above freezing. While last week\u2019s grooming efforts mirrored mid-winter conditions, the recent fluctuations in temperature have created new challenges for our grooming team. Groomers have had to adjust their techniques, going faster uphill and slower downhill to account for the snow texture When temperatures drop quickly, the snow becomes easier to climb and groom, but in warmer conditions, it remains loose and doesn\u2019t groom out as effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The snow is also getting bumpier much faster because it behaves more like sugar, shifting easily under skis and boards. If we receive natural snowfall, it will help the snow bind better and hold its shape. However, until then, skiers and riders should be prepared for variable conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead, the weekend is expected to bring a significant temperature drop overnight. This will help soften the snow and allow our groomers to compact it more effectively, maintaining our overall base depth. The texture of the snow has been comparable to dry sand or sugar\u2014it shifts underfoot and doesn\u2019t always take a flat, firm shape.\u00a0With the North side closing earlier in the day, temperatures can fluctuate quickly, so conditions will continue to change throughout the day. Be mindful of these shifts and adjust your skiing accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now is the ideal time to tune your skis and sharpen your edges<\/strong>. With the snow becoming more granular, it tends to expose the ice layer (or pavement) underneath as it gets skied out. Seek out areas with more snow coverage for the best experience on the mountain.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With daylight savings time coming into effect, there\u2019s great skiing to be had for longer periods during the day. Look for updates to hours of operation post-March break.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
