Snowy weather pattern delivers one more storm<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve been in a wintery weather pattern for the past week with over 40 centimetres falling at Blue, making for some great powder mornings. For the first time this season, the mountain is practically 100% open, and coverage is excellent when you combine all that natural snow with continued snowmaking operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another quick moving clipper will deliver 5 to 10 centimetres of additional wet snow but some ice pellets and even freezing rain will mix in early. The best time to take advantage of the fresh stuff is night skiing on Tuesday or first tracks Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here comes \u2018THE January Thaw\u2019<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For skiers and riders, the words \u2018January Thaw\u2019 can seem scary and might even bring back memories of past years\u2019 heavy rain, melting snow and sparce mountain coverage. As a meteorologist and skier, I\u2019m happy to report that This Year is Different, and here\u2019s why;<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Milder temperatures are welcome news after the chilly start to the season. Who doesn\u2019t like \u2018spring skiing\u2019 in January?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Coverage is excellent for this time of year and the wet weather that arrives late this week won\u2019t drastically change that. Rain amounts should remain below 25 millimetres, limiting the melt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Colder air and snow will quickly return this time around. We are not talking about a lengthy period of warmth and rain like in past years. That makes it much easier to get back on track after the warm-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Day to Day<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday<\/strong>: Another clipper drops 5 to 10 centimetres of wet snow after a brief period of freezing rain or ice pellets. The high temperature is just above freezing but drops below at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday and Thursday<\/strong>: Some excellent conditions with mild air and dry weather. The best days of the week to ski or ride IMO. Could even see some sunshine on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Weekend<\/strong>: Back-to-back weather systems bring mild temperatures but also some rain Friday\/Saturday. It will then become colder on Sunday with snow flurries freshening up surfaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\nSenior Meteorologist,
