\nAfter weeks of biting cold and seemingly relentless wind, we\u2019re finally catching a break. The gusts eased over the weekend and Sunday delivered wall-to-wall sunshine\u2014rewarding skiers and riders with excellent, soft carved turns across the hill.\n<\/p>\n\n

\nAs we just passed the\u00a050-day mark<\/b>\u00a0of the season, we\u2019re officially into mid-season form, and conditions are some of the best we\u2019ve seen in years. I think this winter will be remembered for its\u00a0length and\u00a0consistency<\/b>, something we should NEVER take for granted in the east. Average snow depths have reached the ideal\u00a0one-metre mark, thanks to a solid mix of snowmaking and an impressive\u00a0212 cm of natural snowfall<\/b>\u00a0so far this winter.\n<\/p>\n\n

\nThe next chance for fresh snow arrives Friday. While totals look modest\u20144\u20138 cm<\/b>\u2014it should be just enough to freshen surfaces ahead of the weekend.\n<\/p>\n\n
\n\nGeorgian Bay Freezes Over<\/h2>\n
\nIf you\u2019re enjoying the recent run of bright, sunny ski days, there\u2019s a reason:\u00a0Georgian Bay has frozen over<\/b>.\n<\/p>\n\n
\n\n
\nThe recent Arctic blast locked the bay in ice, effectively shutting down lake-effect snow for the season. With no open water to add moisture, winds crossing the bay now feel drier, skies tend to be clearer, and overcast days become less frequent. YAY!!!\n<\/p>\n\n
\n\n
\nThe trade-off? Fewer surprise powder days. As always in weather, you gain something\u2014and give something up.\n<\/p>\n\n

\nSaturday & Sunday:<\/b> Sunshine returns, but so does the cold. Breezy on Saturday, lighter winds Sunday. Highs both days remain in the\u00a0double digits below zero, with wind chills dipping below\u00a0\u201320\u00b0C. By now, we know the drill\u2014dress for it, and it\u2019s still a great weekend to ski, ride, skate or tube.
