Operations Update: Fine Tuning Snow Conditions

There’s a lot happening behind the scenes right now and it’s all adding up to strong conditions across Blue Mountain!

We’ve officially wrapped up our snowpack renovations, refreshing about 15 trails from top to bottom. With a boost from recent natural snowfall, those runs have set up beautifully and conditions are holding strong.

Our grooming team continues to maintain and fine-tune what we’ve built. They’re levelling out trails, reinstalling fencing and ribbons, digging out lift tower pads, and tightening up the resort as a whole. In the beginner areas, we’re shaping micro-slopes to keep progression smooth and confidence-building for those just getting started.

This stretch of the season is also an important window for ongoing snow groomer training. With solid hours under their belts, our team is continuing to expand their skillsets through winch training, renovation techniques, grooming lift loads and unloads, rolling in trail edges, and pushing snow up from the bottom of runs.

The efficiencies we’ve put in place over the past two winters are proving themselves again. Conditions have remained strong, we’re preserving our base well as we’re still sitting at roughly a metre of snow depth across the mountain.

In the parks, the L-Park cross track opened last weekend, with the start gate being installed this weekend. We’re also anticipating rebuilding the Badlands terrain park soon. Starting Monday, the team will begin building the track for Coors Light Snow Tube Bowling at the bottom of Smart Alec trail, and then we’ll recreate it again in time for March Break’s cardboard box derby. The operations team is always busy with our awesome calendar of events that you can check out here.

Behind the scenes, snowmaking maintenance never stops. We’re actively testing and maintaining guns to ensure the system is ready to run at a moment’s notice, or primed to go again next winter.

The grooming team heading back out after the midnight BBQ!

We also took time this week to celebrate our people. Tuesday marked International Ski Patrol Day, where we shared messages of appreciation for our Patrollers from guests and staff. And our annual Midnight BBQ brought the team together to thank our overnighters, just one of the many ways we stay connected as a resort community.

We’ll keep doing the work so you can keep enjoying the slopes. See you out there!

You'll find me across the mountain swapping between my ski boots and hiking boots with a GoPro in hand to capture all things on-hill for Blue's social media channels.
