Operations Update: Ready for March Break and Spring Operations

The forecast looks great for skiing, with warmer days and colder nights ahead. This combination is perfect for the snow conditions we love at Blue Mountain Resort. Cold nights allow the groomed snow to set up perfectly, providing a solid base, while the warmer days help soften the snow, creating fantastic skiing conditions.

With the expected classic spring conditions arriving soon, we’re preparing for that annual change in weather. Another key note is that our afternoon grooming efforts will wrap up after March Break, as we start preparing for the final stretch of the season.

In terms of terrain developments, we’ve already started constructing the Big Air XL jump. Grooming operations have been in full swing, with lots of snow being pushed down into the bottom of Smart Alec from the top of the run. The grooming machine stays on the run, using a winch to manage the steep landing area. Once completed, the jump will be an impressive 50 feet high! Arena Snow Parks is helping us with the build, bringing their expertise to ensure it’s constructed safely and efficiently.

Once the Big Air jump is finished, the snow will be repurposed for the highly anticipated Pond Skim event, which is just around the corner.

Despite some natural snow loss, we’ve managed to maintain great conditions, with our snow depth still averaging over a metre. So even as spring approaches, we’re still in great shape for the skiing and riding ahead.

It’s worth noting that we’re planning to keep our high-speed lifts open later in the day than usual this season, extending the skiing experience for our guests. This is a rare occurrence, but our snow conditions are so solid, and the demand from our pass holders is so strong, that we’re thrilled to keep the slopes open until 7 PM post-March Break.

And of course, don’t forget that we lose an hour of sleep soon with the upcoming time change! We’ll still be out here making the most of every moment with our guests.

Looking ahead to next season, our snowmaking team is already focused on improving for winters to come. We’re making plans to continue increasing gun density, automate more processes, and expand snowmaking capabilities to more terrain. Additionally, our leadership team is starting to plan for the spring and summer months, with discussions about lift maintenance, capital projects, and the overall long-term development of Blue Mountain Resort. We’ll keep everyone in the loop with major off-season updates throughout the spring and summer!
