Spring Skiing and a Slush Fest
If you’ve been skiing or riding the last couple of days, you’ve probably noticed the rapid snow melt and very slushy afternoon conditions on the slopes — it’s practically water skiing out there. Coverage is still good for this time of year, but the three W’s are taking their toll.
Warm
Windy
Wet
These three work together to eat through even the most solid snowpack. Before you pack away your skis though, a pattern change is on the way — one that could end with a bang just in time for March Break.
What to Expect During March Break
Friday’s storm track is still uncertain, but there’s potential for significant accumulation in the 10 to 15 centimetre range. That fresh snow, combined with the groomers working their magic overnight, would do wonders to freshen up surfaces ahead of the busy holiday week.
Temperatures on Saturday remain near freezing and it should be a fantastic day on the slopes. A second storm arrives Sunday, though it’s still too early to tell whether it stays all snow or mixes with rain. Behind that system, temperatures drop and we’re looking at a chilly first half of next week before things moderate again. Some models even hint at a third storm by midweek — the more optimistic ones suggest over 40 cm across all three systems combined.
Sunny spring skiing is hard to beat, but powder days in March? Those are something extra special.
Day-to-Day on the Slopes
Tuesday: Cloudy skies and not as mild. High near 5°C with lighter winds.
Wednesday: Periods of rain. High near 9°C. Winds 30–50 km/h.
Thursday: Partly sunny and much colder. Likely icy conditions. High near -2°C.
Friday: Periods of snow. 10–15 cm. High near +1°C.
Saturday: Pleasant and partly sunny. High near zero.
Sunday: Another storm arriving — snow possibly changing to rain. Accumulations likely.
With a promising stretch ahead and March Break just around the corner, now is a great time to get out on the mountain. Have fun out there!
