Operations Update: Winter Is Coming

As we not-so-patiently wait for colder weather, here’s an update on what’s happening in our operations department behind-the-scenes.

Weather Watching

Excitement is building around Blue as the long-range forecast shows a promising shift toward cooler snowmaking temperatures by mid next week. Starting Tuesday night, our snowmaking team will shift to 24/7 operations. Priorities for snowmaking efforts will include the Village ski area and the Village Learning Centre to ensure these key areas are ready for guests for Opening Day. If there’s a window to make snow at any point, we will take it.

Snowmaking Maintenance Continues

While we wait for optimal snowmaking conditions, the work continues across the mountain. At the golf pump house, one filter has been installed to support the new snow guns. All four air compressors in the snowmaking building have been serviced and are ready to power up the system, standing by for the right weather conditions to kick us off. And over in the grooming department, five of our snow cat fleet are tracked and ready to go. The team is diligently maintaining and tracking the remaining machines to ensure smooth trail grooming throughout the season.

Prepping On-Mountain

Our iconic trail signs have been reviewed across the resort, and those that need some TLC are being replaced or repaired so they’re ready for the season. Additionally, we received new snow gun and tower pads this week to ensure skier safety around the new infrastructure. Plus, the new rail stash in the Orchard has been finalized, giving the park team better access to stored features.

The countdown to winter is officially on, and our teams are making incredible progress to ensure an unforgettable season. Stay tuned for more updates as we prepare for the slopes to open soon!
