Operations Update: Managing Spring Conditions

Spring is starting to make its presence known on the slopes, and with it comes one of the most dynamic and enjoyable parts of the ski season.

March typically brings a mix of conditions, and this year is shaping up right on schedule. We’re transitioning into the classic spring pattern: cooler nights that help the snow set up, followed by milder afternoons that soften surfaces throughout the day.

For our operations team, this time of year is all about managing the snowpack we’ve built throughout the winter and adapting to the changing weather patterns.

What to Expect on the Slopes

As temperatures fluctuate, conditions will naturally change throughout the day and from one day to the next. Early mornings may offer firmer surfaces after overnight freezes, while afternoons can bring softer snow as temperatures rise.

These cycles are part of what makes spring skiing so unique. Our grooming teams work overnight to reset and redistribute snow where it’s needed most, helping maintain consistent coverage and ski quality across the mountain. With a strong base built up over the winter, the mountain is well-positioned to handle the warm-ups that come with March.

The key this time of year is flexibility, both for our teams and for our guests. Conditions may shift quickly with changes in temperature, precipitation, or wind, and our crews are constantly adjusting operations to match what the mountain needs each day.

Looking Ahead Through March Break

The best news for skiers and riders is that we’re confident there is still a lot of ski season left. Thanks to the snowpack we’ve built this winter, we’re entering spring in a strong position. Our focus now is on carefully managing the snow we have and balancing terrain availability with the conditions we’re seeing on the hill.

After March Break, you can expect a gradual reduction in some terrain areas, particularly in zones without snowmaking such as parts of the North, and Finally, and Founders trails. This is a normal part of spring operations and allows us to concentrate snow where it will deliver the best possible skiing and riding experience for the longest period of time.

Simply put, the name of the game right now is snow management.

Our grooming teams will continue pushing and preserving snow across priority trails to keep the mountain skiing well deep into the spring season.

Terrain Park Update

For our park riders, a quick heads-up: the terrain parks in the Orchard will temporarily close early next week. This short closure will allow the park crew to complete a full rebuild ahead of March Break, refreshing features and reshaping the park to make sure it’s dialed in for one of the busiest weeks of the season. When the parks reopen, riders can expect a refreshed setup ready for spring sessions.

Enjoy the Spring Season

Spring skiing and riding at Blue is one of the best times to be on the hill. Longer days, softer snow, and a lively atmosphere make for some incredible laps. There’s still plenty of season ahead and we’re looking forward to seeing you out there.
