A Day In the Life Of A Mountainside Camp Counsellor

Each day working at Blue looks a little different for every employee, but at Summer Camp, every day is filled with fun! Featuring a variety of summer camps to choose from, there’s so many options for counsellors working here this summer. Read on as I give you a sneak peek into what a typical day in the life of a Mountainside Camp Counsellor looks like!

Morning

Rise and shine as I head over to South Base Lodge for the morning meeting with the rest of the Summer Camp crew. Our Supervisors check in and brief us on the lay of the land before kickstarting our day of fun. Me and my partner in crime, aka my co-counsellor, set out to round up our crew of excited campers. At Mountainside, campers are guaranteed outdoor adventure as they conquer hiking in the Explore Park and tackle must-do attractions in our Adventure Park.

Depending on our schedule, we guide our team from South Base Lodge to Canopy Climb Net Adventure, Cascade Putting Course, Lumber Lanes Climbing Centre, and more! Campers have access to almost all of the activities in the Adventure Park, which is a major perk of the job. If we choose to hike in the morning, we’ll begin our adventure to the top by making our way up Cascade or Village Way trail, or riding the Open-Air Gondola to the summit. Up at the top, we can explore Memory Lane or Sticks & Stones trail loops.

Noon

By now, our busy campers are typically itching for a good meal to recharge them for the active day ahead. We find a nice spot on the mountain to settle in for lunch. Or, if we’re close to the Cascade Room, we’ll look for a place to eat inside and beat the heat. And on Fridays, we usually have some campers who add on a hot pizza lunch from Grand Central Eatery to their package for an extra treat!

After recharging the kids’ batteries, it’s time for a refreshing change; our afternoon is all about Plunge! Aquatic Centre! For littles, the splash playground and big water bucket is where it’s at. For older campers, we take them to the action pool to dive, swing and jump in to see who can make the biggest splash. Before we leave, we make sure to take them down the water slide for the ultimate end to another fun day at camp!

Evening

Once we wrap up the day’s activities at Plunge, it’s time to send our campers on their way. Back at South Base Lodge, we reconnect with other counsellors and pass off our tired kiddos to their smiling parents before heading home myself. A night of relaxation before another day filled with fun tomorrow!
