Operations Update: Silver Bullet Chairs Return

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what’s happening on the mountain this week.

Snowmaking System Testing

We’re conducting major tests of our flood lines as we continue to prepare our snowmaking systems. This morning, our team fired up the snow guns and performed hill walks, checking carefully for leaks along the lines. The process involves fully pressurizing water and air to clear the lines of any residual dirt, welding shavings, and sediment. After this step, hoses are reconnected to the snow guns, and the lines are reopened to ensure water and air are flowing to the guns as expected.

This round of testing also checks the automation to our valve houses, ensuring seamless communication between our snowmaking equipment, valve house, and control room. This verifies that out automated operations are working with our new systems. Currently, 63% of our snow guns are automated, and these tests ensure they’re set for consistent, efficient snowmaking throughout the season.

Equipment Maintenance and Improvements

Last week our team was also busy fixing leaks and performing general maintenance to keep everything in top shape. This morning, we transitioned from gondola cars to the chairs on the Silver Bullet Express, readying this iconic lift for the winter season. Additionally, our team has installed a webcam at the top of the South Base Lodge providing guests with a great view of the South mountain conditions, which will be viewable on our website soon.

Terrain Park Progress

The Terrain Park team has been hard at work building out features for riders of all levels. This includes a new “firecracker” rail—a unique feature with two-foot sections that cascade downward, providing a fun and challenging element for riders. The Terrain Park crew is also refurbishing our rail fleet, including our progression rails, to ensure they’re ready for the season ahead.

These preparations are essential to making this winter a success, and we’re excited to be one week closer to our first snowfall as we watch the forecast. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to count down to opening day.
