Winter is just around the corner and it won’t be long until you can strap on your skis or board and head to Blue Mountain Resort.
But when the time comes to hit the slopes, will you and your equipment be ready?
After the first snow fall, it’s tempting to just haul your ski equipment out of storage and get out there. But jumping back in without some pre-season prep can make your first days back on the runs less enjoyable.
Here are some tips to make a smooth transition into the coming winter season at Blue.
MAKE SURE YOUR EQUIPMENT FITS AND TUNE YOUR GEAR
First, you want to make sure your boots fit properly. Few things can ruin a beautiful day of skiing or boarding more than poor fitting boots. Put them on a few days before your first day on the hill and walk around. Make sure they feel as good as they did last year. If you don’t feel like you can stay in them all day, or if you’re in the market for a new pair, consider getting professionally fitted. You may need a customized foot bed or liner to make your boots fit comfortably.
Next, it’s important to give your skis or boards a thorough check before you use them. If you’ve stored your gear in a hot garage all summer, you might find some rust on the edges and damage to the wax on the bottom. You should also look for any loose screws or bolts on your bindings that will need to be tightened up.
Don’t worry about fixing your own gear. Blue Mountain’s ski and snowboard repair shop can help you out. Bring your skis and snowboards in for a wax and tune up and you’ll notice a difference on your first day back on the slopes.
WHY NOT TAKE A LESSON?
Whether you’re a bunny hill beginner or a seasoned black-diamond thrill seeker, there is always room for improvement in skiing and snowboarding. Blue Mountain offers a number of customizable ski and board lessons with our team of knowledgeable professionals.
You’ll be amazed how making simple adjustments can improve your skiing or riding and make the season even more enjoyable. So instead of jumping onto a chairlift after months of being off the slopes, consider booking some lesson time to become the skier or boarder you were meant to be.
HIT THE SPA
No matter what physical shape you’re in, it’s always a good idea to stretch and soak your muscles at the end of a day of skiing or boarding. You’ll feel much more flexible and prepared for the next day on the slopes. Enjoy Blue Mountain’s two on-resort spas, Kalola and Iwa. Or, treat yourself to some extra pampering at the nearby Scandinave Spa. Your body will thank you after a relaxing soak in the restorative pools.
DON’T FORGET TO EAT
It’s very important to stay hydrated and to fuel your body during skiing and boarding. Luckily, Blue Mountain offers an array of food and dining options for the whole family. And of course, there are plenty of venues for après-ski and nightlife. Soak up the fun atmosphere of Blue Mountain Resort and Village while you enjoy a cold or hot beverage just steps from the lifts. Or enjoy some live music and an evening out without the kids. Blue Mountain offers child care services with trained and experienced babysitters, should parents want some time to hit the town.
STAY POSITIVE
Most importantly, when you’re returning to skiing or boarding, remember; it’s all about having fun and enjoying yourself. Share the good times with great friends and family. And take advantage of the amazing conveniences and experiences Blue Mountain has to offer.
We look forward to providing you with unforgettable visits this winter at Blue Mountain Resort.
See you on the slopes!
