Staying Fit at Home Challenge #2

Alright sports-fans we’ve entered into week two of the Staying Fit at Home Challenge. We’re happy to announce that the participation from the group has been incredible and is keeping us inspired! We are also VERY happy that the humidity has broken so that we have cooler temps for the big week of running ahead of us.

We are going to channel our inner Flock of Seagulls and run, run so far away. We want you to run, walk or jog three separate 5km distances by Sunday! Don’t run the entire 5km if your body is not used to it – just because you have a 5 min km (impressive) does not necessarily mean you’ll be the weeks winner. Pick a pace that is good and safe for your body!

Congrats Melissa on being the winner of week 1!

Speaking of winners – we were inspired by Melissa Kennett. The art of a sweaty selfie is hard, but she sure mastered it and is our Challenge 1 winner! Please email socialmedia@bluemountain.ca so we can get you your prize!

I did these last week, in that heat and HOLY COW! I am not a morning person so I missed the “cool” temperatures if that was a thing – but I can tell you running at 11am, 1pm and 3pm were what I imagine running on the sun to feel like. I run with my dog Kira, who can RUN for hours, but every stream or river we passed she would hightail into the water. Not really fair that one of us could go swimming every 500 meters – not to mention messing with my chance of breaking my records.

Because it was 1 million degrees out last week there was no way I was running in pants, so I blinded my neighbours with my reflective legs and the Better Than Naked Flight Shorts!

If I find a product that I like – I will talk it up for YEARS. I now have five pairs of these shorts, and their major downfall is they only come in black – because how many pairs of black shorts can you have? Reasons I specifically like to run/hike in these shorts. They have a super stretchy waistband, that is actually four pockets and it can hold my house key, and phone without the bulk. If you live in the Collingwood area, we have a few of these in store (from last year so that means ON SALE). They are completely stretchy and do not rise up either (because no one needs to see your butt when you run) and also have a built-in breathable liner to help with the before mentioned. I paired that with the prize from last week the Hyper Layer Tee to stay as cool as possible in that heavy heat. I know this might seem like a product push – but I cannot stress, “Look good. Feel good. Perform good” enough. Running or working out in an old oversized cotton or poly t-shirt is not going to help you breathe. It is going to get soaked with sweat and just make you feel slow and blah (at least for me). By the end of the five weeks, you will have new habits formed and so this is a great opportunity to, “Treat yo’self” with some new active wear – which is getting more and more acceptable as day-to-day wear, at least in the world of Blue Mountain.

Remember these are just the suggestions, and you can pick any three at home work outs.  To qualify for this week’s challenge you must!
